CoreAAC Directshow Filter Decoder 1.2.0.575 rev.3This AAC DirectShow filter has its roots in FAAD2 and allows AAC or MP4 audio playback. Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) is a standardized, lossy compression and encoding scheme for digital audio. Designed to be the successor of the MP3 format, AAC generally achieves better sound quality than MP3 at similar bit rates.
AAC is generally considered to have about 30% better compression than MP3 while still maintaining slightly better quality. It is used in MP4 container files, and had it's first broad introduction to the general public through the Apple iPod. It can include up to 48 full-bandwidth audio channels in a single stream with 15 LFE (Low Frequency Effects) channels. The AAC format is also ideally suited for streaming audio and multilingual audio files.
