MPXPLAY is a small and fast DOS (Disk Operating System) based 32-bit audio player with text based GUI. It supports AAC, AC3, AIF, APE, FLAC, MP2/MP3, MPC, Vorbis, WMA, WV audio codecs, WAV/W64 files, and can play sound from videos using the AVI, ASF, MP4/M4A and OGG containers. With plugins it plays: DTS, MOD and SPX too. Audio CD playing and ripping is also possible (CDW). It supports the following playlist types: M3U, M3U8, PLS, FPL, CUE, MXU. DOS version uses a 32-bit DOS extender (DOS/32 Advanced DOS Extender being the most up-to-date version compatible).
MPXPLAY features (not full list):

- tag (metadata) editing of ASF,FLAC,MP4,OGG files and ID3v1,ID3v2,APETag (AAC,AC3,APE,MP2,MP3,MPC)
- control with keyboard, mouse, joystick, serial port (infra receiver)
- fast forward and rewind (seeking), between the songs too
- cross-fade songs in real time
- auto volume correction; dynamic limiter; surround, speed (freq) control, tone control (mp2,mp3,mpc only)
- multichannel audio decoding/playing
- bitstream I/O handling to demux or cut audio streams without re-encoding (aac,ac3,dts,mp2,mp3 only)
- FTP client: direct playing from ftp-servers (with OpenSSL support in the win32 version)
- LFN (long filenames) support under Windows and DOS too (with DOSLFN)
- AAC,FLAC,MP3,OGG,WavPack encoding with DLLs
- DSP and visual plugins with DLLs
- LCD-display handling (DOS only)
What's new in this version:
- added http file/stream handling (ALT-F5 can record/copy streams too)
- added Ogg-Opus demuxing (decoding is in DLL)
- removed lq-mode (16 bit integer) au-mixer, removed HQmode setting from mpxplay.ini (now Mpxplay has only 32-bit float based audio mixer)
- added general tone (bass/treble) for au-mixer (all filetypes have tone control, not only MPx)
- crossfade works at different input frequencies too (you can do crossfade between a 5.1, 48Khz AC3 and a 22kHhz mono MP3 too)
- added disable_decodertone (+16) and disable_mixertone (+32) flags to MixerControl variable
- DOS: partially modified Intel HDA handling, added new PCI IDs (cards/boards)
- bugfixes: see WHATSNEW.160
