Syncplay synchronizes video playback across multiple media players so that a group of people who all have the same videos can watch and discuss them on VoIP together. Pausing, unpausing and jumping position within a media player is all synchronized, giving everyone connected a shared viewing experience. Syncplay does not use video streaming or file sharing so each user must have their own copy of the media to be played. Syncplay does not synchronize player configuration, audio or subtitle track choice or volume. Users must manually choose what file to play as Syncplay does not synchronize which file is open. The program does not provide a voice or text-based chat platform to allow for discussion during playback as Syncplay is intended to be used in conjunction with a third-party communications solution such as IRC or Mumble. Syncplay supports mplayer2, mpv, Media Player Classic (MPC-HC), and has experimental support for VideoLan VLC Media Player.
