Kdenlive is an open source non-linear video editor designed to answer most needs, from basic video editing to professional work.

Being based on FFmpeg, Kdenlive can use almost any audio and video formats directly without the need to re-encode your clips (such as AVI, MP4, WMV, MPEG, etc..), and also supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios for both PAL, NTSC and various HD standards, including HDV and AVCHD.

Furthermore Kdenlive brings a DVD authoring solution, and can then be used as a complete studio for video creation.

Automatic slideshows creation from pictures with crossfade transitions. Effects and transitions can be used with ease, and you can even create some wipe transitions of your own! A built-in title editor to create, move, crop and delete video clips, audio clips, text clips and image clips.

Audio effects include normalization, phase and pitch shifting, equalization filters, limiting, volume adjustment, reverb and more. Visual effects include options for masking, blue-screen, distortions, rotations, colour tools, blurring, obscuring and others.
